Principles of Uncertainty
This project was completed for Rochester Community and Technical College in Rochester, MN and produced through the Minnesota Percent for Art in Public Places. The challenge was to produce a sculptural installation that also provided study space for students. One of the College's main areas of education is video production, so I thought it would be interesting to create a series of scenes that mimic this type of presentation, except through physical sculptures instead of digital media. A standing "theater" device cycles through multiples of four different sculptural scenes according to a preset computer controlled program. The scenes overlap in various layers and variable front and back lighting configurations create multiple visual effects. The scenes relate to patterns of growth in the arts and technical fields. The theater seats trigger reading lights above. 2004.
